We must treat Native history with great honor and respect. Like you, I have ancestors that hold their heads high, ancestors whose names I dare not say aloud for fear of showing disrespect.
Like our ancestors, I was raised to honor all the things I can see, the things I can hear and the things I can touch. Most of all, I was taught that the Creator allows me to breathe His air and permits me to walk on His Mother Earth. This same Creator’s heart is saddened when He sees what has happened to His children.
He whispered in my ear and said, “Son, never forget the past for it holds our history; the souls of our ancestors, but you must forgive the past to heal the future.”
Let us move forward together by doing exactly that; FORGIVE THE PAST TO HEAL THE FUTURE.
